HISTORIC HUDSON VALLEY HOME
HISTORIC HUDSON VALLEY HOME
When clients asked Liz to capture their stunning river views while expanding the outdoor entertainment space of their historic 1836 home, she knew a challenge awaited. Their Mt. Merino perch in Hudson, NY, offered sweeping views of the Hudson River, but the home’s original columned porch limited outdoor accessibility.
As Liz considered designs for new outdoor seating and entertainment areas, it was crucial to respect the home’s formal structure and scale while incorporating more modern curves. By skillfully employing geometry, symmetry, and thoughtful material selection, she bridged the gap between tradition and contemporary style. Liz combined traditional wall materials with a modern wood deck structure. The local fieldstone wall evoked a timeless feel that balanced beautifully with the contemporary wood decking. Additionally, the stone walls encircling the deck served as seating. Gracious, curving steps leading down to the front lawn provided an inviting spot to connect with friends and savor the breathtaking views.
